With the third week of the college football season coming to a close, the following players have been selected as our (co)-offensive and defensive Big XII Players of the Week.

Offense: Mason Rudolph JR QB & James Washington JR WR – Oklahoma State

The duo of Mason Rudolph and James Washington were the stars of the night for the Cowboys Saturday as they led OSU to a 45-38 victory over the Pitt Panthers. A week after connecting just five times for 69 yards in a loss to Central Michigan, Rudolph was able to find Washington nine times for 296 yards this week.

Needing a boost after a strange loss last week, Rudolph found his favorite target for a 91-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage to set the tone early. Overall, Rudolph would finish with 540 yards (a career high) and two touchdowns. After seeing what Cal did to Texas’ secondary this week, this OSU duo has got to be watering at the mouth for their match-up in Stillwater in two weeks.

Defense: Ty Summers SO LB – TCU

In TCU’s Big XII opener against Iowa State, Gary Patterson’s defense looked improved from the product they put on the field during their disappointing 1-1 start. Led by Ty Summers 16 total tackles, the Horned Frogs were able to hold an overmatched Iowa State team to 355 total yards and just 20 points.

Getting off the field on third downs was still problematic for Patterson’s team against the Cyclones, allowing eight conversions on 22 attempts, but if Summer’s can build off his performance on Saturday, that percentage will surely go down during Big XII play. Summer’s solid play in week three will have to continue for the Horned Frogs as a match-up with the 25thranked Oklahoma Sooners looms two weeks away.
