After another high-flying week of Big XII football, these are our offensive and defensive Players of the Week.
Offense: Skyler Howard SR QB – West Virginia
As the Mountaineers traveled to West Texas to take on Texas Tech, Skyler Howard led the Mountaineers to a blowout win in Lubbock. Howard found success both through the air and on the ground as accounted for 407 yards of total offense and three touchdowns.
Even going against an overmatched Red Raider defense, Howard looked impressive throughout the game as he helped lead West Virginia to a 48-17 win on the road. During the Mountaineer’s rock solid 5-0 start, Howard has quietly added his name to the growing list of elite Big XII gunslingers. If Dana Holgorsen’s squad wants to continue its dark-horse run at a Big XII title, Howard will need to continue putting on displays like he did this past weekend. Next up, West Virginia has TCU at home.
Defense: Ryan Reid SR CB – Baylor
In Baylor’s dominating 49-7 victory over Kansas in Waco on Saturday, senior cornerback Ryan Reid set a career-high as he picked off two passes. Although he did not record a tackle, he also accounted for another turnover as he was able to record a fumble recovery.
After a quick start by the offense to open the game, Reid intercepted a pass from Kansas and took it 64 yards to the end zone to make the score 14-0 early. He would later add another interception to add to the Bear’s season-high five forced turnovers. Even without former head coach Art Briles, Baylor has not missed a beat this season as they have ascended to the top ten and carry a 6-0 record into their bye week.
